The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed claims by the Ladi Adebutu Democratic Organisation (LADO) questioning the indigeneship of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing the allegation as baseless, mischievous, and politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 28, 2026, by the Ogun State APC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi, the ruling party condemned comments reportedly made by LADO spokesperson, Afolabi Orekoya, during a radio programme on a private FM station in Ilese-Ijebu.
The APC said the attempt to portray Senator Adeola as a stranger in Ogun State was not only reckless but also contrary to constitutional provisions regarding citizenship and eligibility for elective office.
According to the party, Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has both maternal and paternal roots in Abeokuta and Yewaland, making the allegation against him laughable.
The party further described the comments as desperate political propaganda aimed at distracting the public from the lingering crisis and internal disintegration within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
“The PDP and its affiliates should focus on resolving their worsening internal crisis instead of attacking political opponents,” the statement noted.
The APC also pointed to the wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, including the defection of former PDP State Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Sikirulai Ogundele, alongside members of the PDP caucus in the Ogun State House of Assembly.
Describing the PDP as a crisis-ridden and sinking party, the APC claimed many members had continued to lose confidence in the opposition party’s leadership and direction.
The statement also described as ironic the attempt by supporters of a governorship aspirant who allegedly abandoned his ancestral base in Iperu to contest election in Odogbolu, to now question Senator Adeola’s background through what it termed unfounded allegations.
Part of the statement read:
“Nigerians are well aware of the fact that the PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, is facing a Federal Government court case linked to alleged vote-buying and money laundering during the 2023 Ogun State governorship election.
“We wait to see how such a candidate, whom the people of Ogun State are keeping at arm’s length because of his poor record, hopes to derive political capital from false, jejune, and illogical statements targeted at Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and his candidature.”
The APC further highlighted the achievements of the APC-led administration under Governor Dapo Abiodun, citing massive road construction, industrial expansion, and landmark infrastructure projects such as the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport along the Ilishan-Iperu axis.
According to the party, Ogun residents would resist any attempt to return the state to what it described as the “dark era” of the PDP marked by thuggery, scandals, and politically motivated violence.
The APC maintained that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola remains the leading contender ahead of the 2027 governorship election, pointing to his grassroots engagements, constituency projects, and economic development blueprint across Ogun State.
The party concluded that the people of Ogun State would reject politics of deception and instead embrace continuity, stability, and sustainable development in the 2027 elections.
