Zenith Bank Expands Pan-African Footprint with Strategic Côte d’Ivoire Launch

Zenith Bank Plc has taken a major leap in its Pan-African growth drive with the official launch of its subsidiary in Côte d’Ivoire, reinforcing its ambition to deepen financial connectivity across the continent.

The grand opening ceremony, set for Wednesday, April 29, 2026, is expected to draw top government officials and regulators from Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, alongside leading business figures and members of the diplomatic community—underscoring growing economic ties and investment prospects between both nations.

The newly established subsidiary, licensed in December 2025 by Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Finance and Budget and regulated by the UMOA Banking Commission, will operate from its headquarters at SCI Wall Street, Avenue Noguès, Plateau, Abidjan.

Positioned as a key gateway for cross-border trade and investment, Zenith Bank Côte d’Ivoire will deliver a range of services including corporate banking, trade finance, offshore banking, and structured financial solutions tailored to businesses operating within Africa and beyond. The move is expected to strengthen financial intermediation across the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).

Speaking on the milestone, Group Managing Director/CEO Adaora Umeoji highlighted the Bank’s long-standing vision of building a globally competitive African brand. She noted that the expansion into Côte d’Ivoire opens new pathways into Francophone West Africa while reinforcing the institution’s commitment to driving trade, investment, and enterprise growth across the continent.

She also credited the vision of Founder and Chairman Jim Ovia, whose goal of establishing a global banking powerhouse continues to shape the Group’s strategic direction.

Leading the new subsidiary is Managing Director/CEO Cédric Tano, a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience. He expressed confidence in the Ivorian market, citing its strong economic growth and increasing regional integration as key opportunities for the Bank to deliver innovative, customer-focused financial solutions.

The Côte d’Ivoire expansion forms part of Zenith Bank’s broader continental strategy, which includes planned entry into the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), with Cameroon as a focal point.

With an established presence in countries such as Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, as well as global financial hubs including the United Kingdom, France, the UAE, and China, Zenith Bank continues to bridge African markets with international opportunities.

Founded in 1990, Zenith Bank has built a reputation as one of Africa’s leading financial institutions, maintaining the highest Tier-1 capital in Nigeria’s banking industry for 16 consecutive years while delivering consistent growth driven by innovation, technology, and strong corporate governance.
