The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has issued a travel advisory to motorists ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, warning road users to exercise patience, caution, and strict compliance with traffic regulations due to increased vehicular movement across major highways in Lagos.

According to the Command, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is currently witnessing heavy vehicular and human traffic as many travellers journey to different parts of the country for the festive celebration. The situation has also been worsened by heightened commercial activities around the Kara–OPIC axis.

The FRSC identified the Kara–OPIC corridor and adjoining sections of the expressway, both inward and outward Lagos, as the most affected areas experiencing severe congestion.

To ease traffic flow and reduce travel delays, motorists travelling through the Lagos–Sagamu–Ore–Benin corridor were advised to make use of alternative routes such as the Lekki–Epe Expressway and the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road where necessary.

The Command also advised motorists using the Apapa–Badagry Expressway to remain calm, avoid dangerous overtaking and excessive speeding, and cooperate with traffic management and security personnel deployed along the route to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety.

Speaking on the traffic management strategy for the festive period, the Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde G. Hamzat, disclosed that more than 700 personnel had been deployed to traffic-prone corridors across the state for effective traffic control, enforcement, rescue operations, and public enlightenment.

The FRSC further urged all road users to maintain lane discipline, avoid one-way driving, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and prioritize safety at all times.

While wishing residents and travellers a peaceful and fruitful Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Command warned motorists against acts capable of endangering their lives and those of other road users.

“Drive Responsibly, Arrive Alive,” the Command stated.
