The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal crash that claimed the lives of six (6) adult males and left three (3) others with varying degrees of injury.
The crash, which occurred late last night at about 2348hrs, involved a yellow TVS tricycle and a white FAW commercial truck. The incident took place in front of the Fire Service Station, Odogiyan, along the Ikorodu–Shagamu Road.
According to the State Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, preliminary investigations revealed that overspeeding was the primary cause of the crash, despite the paved and smooth condition of the road.
She added that although the FRSC rescue team responded swiftly, no passenger escaped unhurt. The injured and deceased victims were evacuated to Ikorodu General Hospital, while the crashed vehicles were towed to the Sagamu Road Police Station, Ikorodu, for further investigation.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He reiterated that overspeeding remains the leading cause of fatal crashes across the country, stressing the need for drivers to exercise restraint, especially during the ember months when traffic volume and risks are heightened.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, FCA, FCTA, CPFA, also reminded motorists and passengers that road safety is a shared responsibility. He cautioned tricycle, bus, and truck drivers to always maintain safe speed limits and urged passengers to speak up against reckless driving before it costs lives.
“Speed thrills but kills. No journey is worth the cost of a life. Let us drive responsibly and ensure that every trip ends in safety,” the Corps Marshal emphasized.
The FRSC Lagos Sector Command reaffirms its unwavering commitment to reducing road crashes, safeguarding lives, and promoting safe road use across the state.
