Governor Akeredolu’s newly created Ondo State Ministry of Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) through her organ, the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB), is driving franchising — a NERC’s regulatory framework to solve the over fifteen years power outage in the Southern part of the State.
Earlier in March 2022, the Commissioner for Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources, Engr Razaq Obe, who was represented by the State Coordinator of Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau, Engr Stephen Olugbenga Bolawole, made a strong case for strategic solution at a meeting at NERC Headquarters in Abuja where the decision to franchise the corridor to an independent power company was reached. Other key stakeholders at the meeting include Ondo South Power Committee, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company management, Consultant to Ondo South Power Committee, Anyigba Independent Electricity Distribution Network and others across the industry value chain.
Today, April 12, 2022, some officials of the BEDC, the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau, the representative of the stakeholders from the southern senatorial district, and the consultant to Ondo South Power Committee toured the entire Ondo South with a view to taking the stock of existing facilities in the proposed franchise area. This is part of the requirements to take over. The exercise was a success. The end of years of blackout in Ondo South is nigh.
