Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, was thrown into an electrifying atmosphere as music, dance and youthful creativity took over the campus during the YABATECH edition of Bigi Soundcity OnTour.
The three-day campus activation, which commenced on September 15, brought together emerging talents, music lovers and students, with the event climaxing in the keenly contested Bigi Music Competition.
With a ₦1 million cash prize and an opportunity to showcase their talent on a bigger platform at stake, aspiring artistes took to the stage to battle for the coveted campus crown.
At the end of the competition, Oladapo Taiwo Opeyemi emerged winner, securing the top spot after a highly competitive final.
Iheanacho Favour Emeka emerged as the first runner-up, while Anikene Victor Chidera finished as the second runner-up, as the contestants delivered performances that highlighted the diverse musical styles and creative energy of YABATECH students.
Beyond the music competition, the Fearless Dance Challenge added another layer of excitement to the activation, with students taking over the stage to showcase impressive dance moves, creativity and self-expression.
The entertainment continued at the concert, where Modola, Táríq, Syemca, Slimcase, Mr P and Kodee, alongside Duuwa and Rukmani, thrilled the audience with performances that kept students singing and dancing throughout the evening.
The energetic performances transformed the campus into a vibrant entertainment hub, bringing students together through music, dance and shared experiences.
However, beyond the entertainment and celebration, the activation was designed to create opportunities for young Nigerians to express themselves, showcase their abilities and connect their talents with wider opportunities.
Speaking on the activation, Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Rite Foods Limited, said the Bigi and Fearless brands remained committed to creating meaningful platforms for young Nigerians to express their creativity.
> “Young people are not waiting for culture to happen; they are creating it every day. Through the Bigi and Fearless brands, we want to meet them where that creativity is most visible and give them platforms where they can express themselves, discover their capabilities and connect with opportunities beyond the immediate moment,” he said.
As the lights went down at YABATECH and the final beats faded into the night, Soundcity OnTour left behind more than music and memories. It provided a platform for emerging talents to be discovered, creativity to be celebrated and young people to take centre stage.
For Opeyemi, Favour and Chidera, the competition offered an opportunity to turn their talents into a memorable achievement, while thousands of students who witnessed the event experienced firsthand the energy and creativity that can emerge when young people are given room to express themselves.
With the YABATECH edition now concluded, attention has shifted to the next stop on the Soundcity OnTour journey.
The tour promises more music, talent, challenges and opportunities for young Nigerians, with students encouraged to keep an eye on the Bigi and Fearless brands for clues about the next campus.
Your campus could be next.
