Evangelist Ebuka Obi Rescues Mentally Challenged Persons from Streets, Establishes Free Psychiatric Hospital in Anambra

Across many states in Nigeria, thousands of individuals living with mental health challenges continue to struggle without access to proper care, shelter, or medical support. Many of them are often left to wander the streets, battling their conditions while trying to survive with little or no assistance.

In response to this growing concern, Ebuka Obi, the Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, has launched a humanitarian initiative aimed at rescuing and rehabilitating mentally challenged individuals across the country.

Through the Seraphic Homes Foundation, the cleric established the Seraphic Psychiatric Hospital in Aguleri to provide free and comprehensive psychiatric care for mentally challenged persons taken off the streets.

The foundation has been actively rescuing individuals from different parts of the Southeast, including Anambra State, Imo State, Enugu State, Abia State and Ebonyi State. Plans are also underway to extend the initiative to all six geopolitical zones across Nigeria.

Once rescued, the individuals are taken to the psychiatric hospital where they receive medical treatment, feeding, accommodation and social rehabilitation — all provided free of charge by the foundation.

So far, more than twenty mentally challenged individuals have been rescued from various parts of Anambra and Imo states. The initiative is gradually expanding its reach to other states in the Southeast, including Enugu and Ebonyi, as well as parts of the South-South region.

Through continuous outreach and medical intervention, the initiative aims to tackle untreated mental health conditions while restoring dignity, hope and a sense of belonging to some of the most vulnerable members of society.

The humanitarian effort underscores the urgent need for greater attention to mental health care and support systems across Nigeria.
