The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval for the annual recruitment of 30,000 police officers will significantly address the manpower deficit in the Nigeria Police Force. This was disclosed during the passing-out parade of the 2022 batch of police constables held at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos. Simultaneous ceremonies were conducted at Premier Colleges and 12 other Police Training Schools across the country, marking the completion of six months of rigorous training.

In his address, AIG Adegoke Fayoade conveyed the IGP’s remarks, describing the event as a “pivotal transition” for the recruits, who are now fully integrated into the police force. He highlighted that the annual recruitment plan of 30,000 officers would bolster internal security and improve police efficiency nationwide.
The IGP also urged the new officers to demonstrate empathy, fairness, and professionalism in their duties, emphasizing their role as public servants and guardians of community trust.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mrs. Salu-Hundeyin, commended the 266 Lagos recruits among the graduating batch and praised the Lagos State Police Command and Police College faculty for their dedication. “You are now ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force and our state,” she told the recruits. “Uphold the highest ethical standards, treat all citizens with fairness, and remain professional in your duties.”
Remarks from the Commandant and PSC Chairman
The Commandant of the Police College Ikeja, CP Omolara Ibidun Oloruntola, praised the recruits for their resilience throughout the training. She urged them to embrace community policing and adhere to constitutional principles of fundamental human rights.
Representing the PSC Chairman, Mrs. Ajayi Daniels assured the recruits of the Commission’s support for their career progression, emphasizing adherence to established rules. She also warned that the PSC would closely monitor their activities to ensure compliance with professional standards.

The ceremony concluded with awards presented to three outstanding recruits:
1. Recruit No. 0624 Akanji Khadijah – Overall Best in Specialist Training.
2. Recruit No. 0018 Ekungbami Daniel – Overall Best in Drill.
3. Recruit No. 0231 Ojo Samuel – Overall Best in General Duty.
The event marked a significant milestone for the recruits as they embarked on their journey as officers dedicated to safeguarding Nigeria’s security and upholding justice.
