As Nigeria’s skyline continues to transform with new commercial, industrial and residential developments, a parallel demand is emerging: how to keep these expanding spaces comfortable without driving up the cost of energy and operations.
The growing construction and industrial activity across the country is therefore placing greater focus on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems that combine comfort, reliability and energy efficiency.
At The Big 5 Construct Nigeria 2026 in Lagos, JMG Limited, through its Clima division and in partnership with Trane Technologies, is drawing attention to the importance of smarter cooling solutions for Nigeria’s evolving built environment.
JMG Limited is the official distributor of Trane air-conditioning solutions, providing cooling systems for residential, commercial and industrial projects.
Speaking on the sidelines of the exhibition, Vineeth Vijayan, Sales Leader, Nigeria and Ghana, Trane Air Conditioning, said the rapid pace of development was increasing demand for specialised cooling and climate-control solutions.
“Buildings are going up, left, right and centre, and these buildings require cooling, specialised kinds of cooling and commercial cooling,” Vijayan said, noting that Trane offers solutions to meet different cooling requirements.
For Idoko Jonahs Adejoh, Business Development Manager, HVAC, JMG Limited, the conversation should extend beyond the installation of air-conditioning equipment to the long-term cost of operating such systems.
According to him, the partnership between JMG Clima and Trane Technologies is focused on providing HVAC solutions designed to deliver cooling performance while improving energy efficiency.
“JMG Clima has partnered with Trane Technologies to provide heating, ventilation and cooling systems to Nigeria, not just cooling systems, but cooling systems that are energy efficient,” Adejoh said.
He explained that although energy-efficient systems may require a higher initial investment, their long-term operational savings could provide greater value to users.
“The initial investment into this might be a bit high, but in the long run, it cuts down on your energy consumption, giving you good value for your investment,” he said.
The issue is particularly significant for businesses and organisations where the cost of powering and maintaining facilities represents a substantial part of operational expenditure.
Beyond the initial sale and installation, Vijayan said customers also benefit from local after-sales support through JMG’s relationship with Trane.
“Customers are benefiting not really only on the sales aspect, but also on the after-sales aspect,” he said.
As Nigeria’s construction sector continues to expand, the demand for cooling is consequently evolving beyond basic temperature control. Developers, businesses and facility operators are increasingly looking for systems that can deliver comfort while supporting energy efficiency, reliability and long-term value.
The emerging trend suggests that the future of Nigeria’s built environment may depend not only on how efficiently buildings are constructed, but also on how intelligently the systems within them operate.
