From the bustling streets of Alimosho to the serene school environments of Ikeja and Ogombo, the Lagos State Police Command has, between December 2025 and January 2026, recorded a wave of operational successes that underline a renewed push against crime and criminal networks across the state.

At a press briefing in Lagos, the Command revealed that its intelligence-led policing strategy, backed by targeted raids, sustained surveillance and swift tactical responses, yielded impressive results. In just two months, officers recovered 25 vehicles, ranging from luxury SUVs to commercial buses, earlier reported stolen, fraudulently converted, smuggled or unlawfully removed from motor parks. Several suspects were arrested for offences including armed robbery, conspiracy, assault, stealing and threats to life.

Beyond vehicle recovery, the operations also took dangerous weapons off the streets. Police seized 17 firearms, including locally fabricated dane guns and cut-to-size pistols, alongside live and expended cartridges. Bundles of suspected counterfeit Nigerian and foreign currencies, fetish charms and other dangerous items were also recovered, evidence of the varied criminal activities being quietly dismantled.

One-Chance Syndicate Crushed in Alimosho

A major highlight of the period was the arrest of 21 members of a notorious “one-chance” kidnapping and robbery syndicate in Idimu, Alimosho. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives stormed the gang’s hideout in January 2026, recovering three vehicles allegedly used for their operations, fetish charms, and large quantities of suspected fake US Dollars and Euros.

The bust effectively disrupted a network believed to be responsible for coordinated attacks and violent crimes in parts of Lagos, bringing relief to residents long troubled by the menace of criminal gangs posing as commercial drivers.

Swift Response to School Bomb Threat

The Command also recorded a breakthrough in the investigation of a bomb threat that sent shockwaves through the education sector on January 21, 2025. The threat targeted three schools—two in Ikeja and one in Ogombo—triggering panic among parents, students and school authorities.

Through digital forensics and intelligence gathering, police traced and arrested a suspect. Although he initially claimed his phone had been lost before the threats were sent, investigations revealed that the same line was used to communicate with family members during the period in question, contradicting his story. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with prosecution to follow.

Ongoing Hunt for Criminal Networks

With 34 bundles of suspected fake foreign currencies, numerous weapons and dozens of stolen vehicles now in police custody, the Command is intensifying efforts to uncover accomplices, trace interstate and cross-border links, verify ownership of recovered vehicles, and identify the sources of counterfeit money. Special attention is also being given to car-hire services and informal transport arrangements often exploited by criminals.

As Lagos continues to grow as a megacity, the Police Command insists that its resolve to protect lives and property remains unwavering. The recent achievements, it says, are a clear message that criminal networks will find no safe haven in the state.
