In a landmark event held at the Apapa LGA Secretariat on June 3rd, 2025, Taiwo Oluwadamilare Mogbojuri, National Executive Chairman of the Joint National Transport Safety Committee Nigeria (JNTSCN), inaugurated the National Trucks and Haulage Transport (Wet and Dry Cargos) Safety and Security Compliance Taskforce. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing safety and security in Nigeria’s critical transport sector.
According to Mogbojuri, the taskforce aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to strengthen safety and security compliance nationwide. The sector faces numerous challenges, including untrained drivers, unroadworthy trucks, environmental disasters, and theft. These issues have resulted in economic losses, fatalities, and weakened investor confidence.
The taskforce will enforce key compliance protocols, including compulsory registration, health screening, vehicle inspections, and safety training. Collaboration with agencies like FRSC, NSCDC, DSS, and the military will ensure secure goods transit and intercept non-compliant operations. Mogbojuri emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships, including NARTO, PTD, RTEAN, NUPENG, and logistics firms, in making the initiative sustainable.
Superintendent of Police Ogunsoto Gbenga, representing the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, reiterated the Police’s full commitment to the initiative. He introduced a four-pillar compliance framework focusing on vehicle safety, driver health, inland waterway security, and anti-smuggling enforcement. The taskforce will operate with transparency and professionalism, combating cargo theft and smuggling.
The event concluded with a strong call to action to stakeholders to take responsibility for ensuring safety and compliance. Nationwide campaigns, digital safety reporting, and driver reorientation programs will be launched to educate and inform. As the taskforce begins its work, it carries a strong message: Nigeria’s era of haulage negligence is over, and a safer transport sector has arrived.
Mogbojuri’s leadership in this initiative has been widely welcomed, and stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on Nigeria’s transport sector. With the support of government institutions and international development partners, the taskforce is poised to make a significant difference.
As Nigeria embarks on this new journey towards a safer transport sector, the National Trucks and Haulage Transport Safety and Security Compliance Taskforce is set to play a critical role in shaping the country’s logistics and transportation landscape.
