The Ogun State Chairman of the Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria (JNTSCN), Hon. Simeon Olu Okeowo, has issued a strong directive to all transport operators in the state, emphasizing the need for compliance with road safety regulations in line with national standards.

Hon. Okeowo warned against the obstruction of highways and major roads through the illegal parking of heavy vehicles, trucks, and trailers, noting that such practices endanger lives and disrupt the free flow of traffic. He stressed that any vehicle found contravening this directive will be impounded immediately.

In addition, the Chairman reiterated the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), making it mandatory for all categories of transportation operators—including vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles—to obtain a minimum of third-party insurance coverage.

> “The highways are not parking lots, and no transport operator is exempt from insurance compliance. Third-party insurance is not optional but a legal safeguard for both drivers and the public. Defaulters will be sanctioned in accordance with the law,” Hon. Okeowo stated.

He further encouraged insurance companies to develop affordable and responsive policies that will provide relief and protection against the vulnerabilities faced by transport operators and road users alike.

The Chairman charged all JNTSCN taskforce officers across Ogun State to remain vigilant in enforcing these directives, assuring that the Committee is fully committed to ensuring safer roads, compliance with national transport laws, and the protection of lives and property.
