The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Hakeem Odumosu, who was abducted on January 16, 2025, outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed that two of the kidnappers were killed during a gun battle, while four others fled without their weapons. The rescue operation, carried out by Ogun State police operatives with technical support from the Force Headquarters, took place in the swampy Ikorodu area on January 23.

Mrs. Odumosu was abducted at about 9:45 PM by four masked gunmen who forcibly removed her from her Lexus Jeep at the entrance of her home. Following the abduction, the Ogun State Police Command’s anti-kidnapping unit launched an intensive investigation and pursuit.

The breakthrough came after days of surveillance in the creeks near Arepo, which led the operatives to the kidnappers’ hideout. During the raid, the kidnappers opened fire on the police, leading to a fierce exchange. Two of the kidnappers were killed, while four managed to escape. The police recovered N10 million ransom previously demanded by the criminals, along with four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, and assorted ammunition.

Mrs. Odumosu was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with her family after undergoing a precautionary medical evaluation.

Commending the operatives, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised their bravery and the efforts of Ogun State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo in ensuring the success of the operation. He reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.

“This operation highlights the dedication and resilience of our officers,” the statement read. “The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to protect citizens and uphold public safety.”
