*HENCEFORTH, AKETI PROMISES TO PAY WAEC FEES, ARAKUNRIN IS INDEED A SINCERE LEADER*….… *Dr. Akeredolu O.N* *The appointments of Prof. Fatusi, Dr. Akanbiemu, and increment of tuition fees, Arakurin has been vindicated* *INTRODUCTION* Sometimes in life, when you are constantly exposed to lies, you may have difficulty in accepting the truth when you eventually find one. The style of Nigeria politics has been so far bastardized to the extent that it is hard for anybody to believe in practicing sane politics. People i.e nigerians now believe you must be a corrupt man for you to be interested in politics, these people may be right to a level when you compare their assertions with the behaviours of our so called political leaders. In fact, the professionals in politics who suppose to be the light for the people are doing worse in politics , this has further dampened the hope of people in Nigeria politics, nevertheless, this has always been my reply – Nigeria was brought to these pitiable conditions by nigerians and when God will revive Nigeria, he will use nigerians to achieve this. The earlier the nigerians realize that the only best system of government for Nigeria, the better it is for all of us in the country. Like most of African countries, Nigeria had witnessed 8 coup attempts in the past, we are second after Burkina Faso that had 10 coup attempts. Most of the countries ruled by military dictators are yet to recover from the anti-people and anti-progressive policies of these juntas. In a nutshell, the only system is democracy which we have been practicing in last two decades. One of the earlier Generals in Nigeria army who joined military in 1957 as graduate, he was one of the seven graduates to join army when the colonial masters were leaving i.e towards the independence, Major General Olufemi Olutoye ( Rtd) , the present Alani of Idoani, once condemned the military reigns all over Africa. According to the nonagenarian, the military rule all over Africa has brought the present woes on African countries. Having known that democracy is only system out of this our present woes, for the past two decades, we are yet to make impactful progress, there is need for us to change our styles of practice of the democracy. Aketi so far has introduced the new dimensions to politics that the young politicians must imbibe. Most of Aketi’s ideas are presently being misconstrued for political reasons but those of us, his supporters termed them Aketism i.e sincerity in governance. The facts remain that Ondo state will forever be grateful to God at the end of Arakunrin’s two terms in the state . *SOME OF THE MISCONSTRUED ACTIONS OF ARAKUNRIN THAT TURNED OUT TO BE THE BEST* -INCREASE IN TUITION FEES: When Arakunrin took over governance in the state, he immediately set up committee to review the status of higher institutions in the state i.e Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Adekunle Ajasin University , Akungba Akoko, University of Medical sciences, Ondo town, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. The committee suggested increment in their school fees and infrastructural developments on their campuses because of the pitiable conditions of these higher institutions. Arakunrin , unlike others, ordered immediate implementation of these resolutions, not minding the aftermath i.e it could cost him the second term ambition. Today, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko won the best state university twice since then. The massive infrastructural developments witnessed in Olusegun Agagu University, Okitipupa are second to none, courtesy of daring actions of Arakunrin. -APPOINTMENT OF DR FRANCIS AKANBIEMU: When Aketi came on board , the tenure of Dr.Fabusiwa, the first executive secretary of Ondo state primary health board ended, the 18 senior doctors came for promotion interview for vacant position. Dr. Francis Akanbiemu , a consultant community health physician who was then the director of statistics at state hospital management board came first under the watch of *WHO*, if Aketi had his way he would have preferred another senior doctor but as a man who believes in excellence, he went for the best. Dr. Francis Akanbiemu was appointed the executive secretary. Today, the immunization programs in the state are among the best in the country and the moribund primary health centers in the state are now responsive to their primary health responsibilities. The recent award of excellence for efficient and effective leadership given to Dr. Francis Akanbiemu is an attestation to Aketi’s visionary governance in the state. – APPOINTMENT OF PROF. FATUSI AS VC OF UNIMED. After the expiration of Prof. Okonufia’s tenure as the first VC of UNIMED, some people including myself, believed the position should be given to Ikale born professor based on personal reasons but Aketi preferred an internationally recognized professor of community medicine, Professor Fatusi from Ogun state. The recent assignments I personally had with the Ikale born Professor who most of us believed should be given the VC position, thanks to God and Aketi for not giving him such a sensitive position. In summary, Aketi was right in his decisions so far, he preferred qualified technocrats to politically inclined civil servants in both cases of Prof. Fatusi and Dr. Francis Akanbiemu’s appointments , the results so far have been encouraging . -OTHER EXAMPLES Towards the last governorship election in the state, Arakunrin was expected to pay the salaries of the state civil servants i.e to borrow money to pay but there was no money in state coffers, he told the civil servants the bitter truth, he never borrowed any money to pay workers and the people still voted for him because they saw sincerity in him. In his first term, he told the entire state that there was no money to continue with free WAEC exams program for SSCE students in public schools not minding the implication on his re-election, now that he’s convinced that the state can foot the bills despite that he had won his second term election, he wants to start the program again. I wonder what manner of man is Aketi? Aketism indeed is sincerity in governance . *IN CONCLUSION* Although, Aketi may not be a perfect man, so far he has exhibited sincerity in governance, he only needs our prayers now for economic turn around for the entire state and Nigeria as a whole, the doubting Thomases in the state should be rest assured that Aketi’s second term is not a useless political adventure, rather an opportunity for people’s governor to write his name in gold of history. He has proudly said he wants to be remembered like Awolowo, may it be so, Amen. *Dr. Akeredolu O.N, vice chairman, Aketi/Aiyedatiwa Medical Committee, 2020 campaign*
