Popular Nigerian comedian and social media influencer, Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggy, has reportedly been hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot injury in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
Sources familiar with the incident dis
closed that the shooting allegedly occurred under the Sango-Ota bridge on Sunday afternoon while the comedian was filming a comedy skit.
According to a police source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the content creator sustained the injury during the filming session, though the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
The source revealed that Broda Shaggy was immediately rushed to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where he received initial medical treatment.
“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We don’t have details yet on how it happened, but members of his crew who were present quickly took him to the hospital,” the source said.
It was further gathered that medical personnel at the facility administered first aid upon his arrival before referring him to Duchess Hospital in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja, where he is currently recuperating.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the hospitals were unsuccessful, as calls to the contact numbers listed on their social media pages did not connect, while a text message sent to the facilities had not been responded to as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the police were alerted by the hospital.
“The hospital contacted the police to report that a gunshot victim had been brought to their facility. Detectives and a patrol team were immediately mobilised to the hospital, where they discovered that the victim was a skit maker and social media influencer popularly known as Broda Shaggy.
“He was seen on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh. The location of the incident is in Sango-Ota and not within our jurisdiction, but investigation is ongoing,” she said.
However, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the incident had not been officially reported to the police in the state.
“The incident was alleged to have occurred in Ogun State, but it was not reported,” he said.
Meanwhile, Broda Shaggy’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, could not be reached for comments, as calls placed to him were not answered and a text message sent had yet to receive a response as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes nearly two years after another content creator, Afeez Ojesanmi, was reportedly robbed of his jewellery and shot around the Lekki axis of Lagos in October 2024.
