CP Sanusi Leads Daring Operation as FCT Police Rescue Five Kidnap Victims, Arrest Two Suspects
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued five kidnapped victims following a coordinated security operation in the Byazhin area of Abuja, demonstrating a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping across the territory.
The operation, personally led by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, was launched in response to recent kidnapping incidents reported in the Paze Community of Byazhin.
The rescue mission involved operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Kubwa Area Command, working in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups.
According to the Command, the joint security team commenced an intensive search, clearance, and rescue operation on June 9, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m., covering Paze and surrounding Byazhin communities.
During the operation, security operatives engaged suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, leading to the neutralization of two suspects and the arrest of two others identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman. Several other gang members reportedly escaped into nearby hills with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles and magazines from the suspects.
The sustained offensive mounted by the security team forced the kidnappers to abandon five hostages, who were successfully rescued unharmed.
The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment, while efforts are underway to reunite them with their families.
Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified search operations across the area and neighbouring communities to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the abductions.
The Command has appealed to healthcare practitioners, public and private hospitals, and members of the public to promptly report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds or presenting suspicious injuries.
Commending the courage and professionalism of the operatives, as well as the support from local security volunteers, CP Sanusi reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes within the FCT.
