The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has presented 157 cheques valued at ₦89,201,523.07 to the families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers who served under the Lagos State Command.
The cheques, which represent claims under the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force, are intended to provide financial assistance to families of officers who lost their lives in the course of duty.
The presentation took place on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
Speaking at the event, CP Tijani said the financial support could not replace the lives of the fallen officers but would serve as a demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to honouring their sacrifices and supporting the families they left behind.
He said the initiative reflects the priority placed on police welfare under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM.
The Commissioner sympathised with the beneficiaries and urged them to utilise the funds judiciously, particularly for the education and welfare of the children and other dependants of the deceased officers.
CP Tijani also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the prompt processing of legitimate welfare and insurance claims due to families of deceased personnel.
He assured serving police officers that their welfare and that of their families remain a priority, stressing that although no financial compensation can replace a loved one, the gesture would provide some relief to the affected families.
The Lagos State Police Command expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the intervention and reiterated its solidarity with the families of the fallen officers.
