The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has rescued eight persons injured in a multiple road traffic crash involving five vehicles at Otedola, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The crash occurred at about 1:00 p.m. and involved eight male occupants. Although all eight persons sustained injuries, no death was recorded.
The vehicles involved comprised two private vehicles and three commercial trucks.
Preliminary investigations identified impatience, distraction and speeding as contributory factors to the crash. The incident was reported at about 1:10 p.m., while the FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene approximately five minutes later, at 1:15 p.m.
The injured victims were immediately evacuated to the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre (LASAEC) for medical attention.
The rescue and traffic management operation involved personnel from the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other relevant agencies.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, were also at the scene as emergency responders worked to rescue the victims and manage traffic.
The FRSC Lagos Sector Command commended the emergency and security agencies for their prompt and coordinated response, which facilitated the rescue of the injured victims and effective management of the crash scene.
The Corps urged motorists to make safety their priority on every journey, advising them to maintain safe following distances, remain focused while driving, avoid reckless manoeuvres and operate at speeds that allow them to maintain full control of their vehicles.
The FRSC also advised commuters to speak up whenever a driver engages in dangerous driving and, where necessary, urge the driver to slow down or stop unsafe practices.
