Glo at 23: Staff Turn Up the Heat at Colourful Fitfest 2026
Employees of Globacom Limited marked the company’s 23rd anniversary in grand style on Saturday as they traded their work desks for sporting arenas, music, dancing and friendly competition at Glo Fitfest 2026 in Surulere, Lagos.
Held at The Stable, the event provided an opportunity for staff to unwind, bond and celebrate more than two decades of the telecommunications company’s operations in Nigeria.
The colourful celebration featured a variety of sporting and recreational activities, including table tennis, Big Ludo, Big Snooker, Beer Pong, Sack Race, Big Ayo and a keenly contested football tournament involving teams drawn from different departments.
To strengthen camaraderie and teamwork, staff members were grouped into clusters, transforming the games into a spirited but friendly battle for bragging rights.
Dressed in specially designed, colourful T-shirts, the employees enthusiastically participated in the activities, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, laughter and healthy rivalry.
The football competition emerged as the major attraction of the day, drawing intense support from colleagues as teams battled for the coveted trophy. Some departments went as far as bringing in colleagues who were skilled footballers from outside Lagos to boost their chances of victory.
The strategy paid off for Glo Rockets, a team comprising staff from the Sales Force and Value Added Services Department, who emerged champions after defeating Strikers FC, made up of employees from the Rollout, Information Systems, Gloworld Development and E-Pin departments.
Glo Rockets received a giant trophy and ₦1 million, while the runners-up, Strikers FC, went home with ₦750,000. Players from both teams were also presented with medals in recognition of their performances.
Winners in the other sporting and recreational competitions likewise received medals and cash prizes.
Beyond the competition, Glo Fitfest 2026 served as a platform for staff engagement and relaxation, with employees taking advantage of the convivial atmosphere to dance, socialise and celebrate their collective journey with the company.
The event underscored the importance of teamwork, employee wellness and a strong workplace culture as Globacom continues its journey into another year of operations.
