In a bid to alleviate food insecurity and promote a culture of giving, Glo Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of telecommunications giant Globacom, has partnered with the Lagos Food Bank to distribute food items to the Ilaje community in Bariga, Lagos. The initiative, which took place last Saturday, saw thousands of residents receive boxes of food items and other essentials.

Each food pack contained a variety of items, including rice, garri, spaghetti, noodles, tomato paste, toothbrushes, sardines, salt, vegetable oil, and seasoning cubes. The distribution was carried out in collaboration with the Lagos Food Bank at the Love Lagos Jetty in Bariga. The event marked the commencement of a nationwide food initiative by Glo Foundation to support hundreds of thousands of Nigerians in several states.

The beneficiaries were overjoyed, singing and dancing in celebration of Glo Foundation’s gesture. In her remarks, the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Globacom, Mrs. Adejumobi Mofe-Damijo, emphasized the Foundation’s determination to bring joy to families through the food drive, which will be extended to other parts of the country.

Mofe-Damijo also commended the staff of Globacom for embracing the culture of giving and lending support to the project consultants, Lagos Food Bank Initiative. The beneficiaries, including Abiola Oladunjoye, Amarachi Peter, and Eunice Kehinde, expressed their gratitude to Glo Foundation for the laudable intervention, noting that the food packs were a huge relief, especially during these challenging times.

The Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, Michael Sunbola, appreciated Globacom for its investment in the food drive and invited other corporate organizations to join the charity venture. The Glo Foundation train is set to visit another Lagos community next Saturday to replicate the same gesture.
