Interswitch, one of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce companies, has once again been recognised among the CNBC and Statista World’s Top Fintech Companies, securing a place in the Payments category of the prestigious 2026 global ranking.

The recognition marks the second consecutive year that Interswitch has featured in the global ranking, reinforcing its position as a key player in advancing digital payments through resilient infrastructure, trusted payment solutions and sustained innovation across Africa.

The company’s inclusion places it among a select group of African fintech firms recognised globally for their contribution to the future of financial services.

Compiled by CNBC in partnership with global market research firm Statista, the 2026 ranking identifies 500 of the world’s leading fintech companies across nine market segments. More than 3,500 eligible companies worldwide were assessed based on independent research, industry data, market performance, product innovation and business impact.

For Interswitch, the recognition reflects more than two decades of commitment to building trusted payment infrastructure that enables individuals, businesses, financial institutions, governments and developers to participate confidently in an increasingly digital economy.

Commenting on the recognition, Mitchell Elegbe, Founder and Group Managing Director/CEO, Interswitch Group, said the company’s consecutive inclusion in the ranking validates its long-term vision and the resilience of the infrastructure it has built over the years.

“Being recognised once again among the world’s leading fintech companies is an affirmation of the consistency of our vision and the resilience of the infrastructure we have built over the years. At Interswitch, we remain focused on developing payment and digital commerce solutions that solve real problems, create opportunities for businesses to grow, and expand access to financial services across Africa.”

He added that the recognition was a reflection of the contributions of the company’s employees, customers, partners and stakeholders.

For over two decades, Interswitch has played a significant role in shaping Africa’s digital payments landscape, providing infrastructure that powers secure, reliable and seamless financial transactions across multiple channels.

Its technology supports payment switching, digital banking, card services, merchant acquiring, government collections, digital commerce and enterprise payment solutions. Its flagship platforms, including Verve and Quickteller, alongside its broad suite of payment infrastructure services, continue to facilitate millions of transactions across the continent.

Also speaking, Cherry Eromosele, Executive Vice President, Group Marketing and Communications, Interswitch Group, described the recognition as a testament to the company’s sustained impact and long-term commitment to building reliable digital infrastructure.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects sustained impact over time. At Interswitch, we have remained focused on building trusted infrastructure that people and businesses can rely on every day. As Africa’s digital economy continues to evolve, we will continue investing in the technologies and partnerships that make commerce simpler, more secure, and more inclusive.”
