The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has alerted motorists to expected traffic restrictions and possible congestion following the commencement of reconstruction works on the damaged expansion joints of Kara Bridge, outward Lagos, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The reconstruction commenced today, Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and is expected to last approximately 14 days.
According to the FRSC, the intervention is aimed at restoring the bridge and improving safety for motorists and other road users. Motorists are therefore advised to plan their journeys ahead and allow extra travel time while the construction lasts.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, urged motorists to avoid unnecessary trips through the Kara corridor and consider alternative routes, including:
Ikorodu–Sagamu Expressway
Lekki–Epe Expressway
Abeokuta Expressway
The FRSC also urged motorists to strictly obey traffic signs and instructions from FRSC personnel and other authorised traffic officials.
Motorists are advised to reduce their speed, maintain safe following distances and avoid dangerous overtaking, indiscriminate lane changes, driving against traffic and unnecessary stopping on the expressway.
Commercial and heavy-duty vehicle operators have been particularly advised to exercise extra caution, while all motorists are encouraged to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on their journeys.
The FRSC Lagos Sector Command, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has deployed personnel to the affected corridor to manage traffic, respond to emergencies and minimise disruptions during the construction period.
The Command appealed to road users for patience and cooperation, stressing that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to deliver a safer and more durable Kara Bridge.
