A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Temitope Adedeji, has celebrated Seyi Tinubu’s 40th birthday with the distribution of free 400 GCE forms and 40 NECO forms to outstanding students in his constituency.

Adedeji, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1, said this at the distribution exercise in his constituency office, on Friday in Lagos.

Adedeji said the gesture as part of the activities to celebrate the president’s son was to ensure that outstanding students further their education and become responsible in the future.

He said: “Part of our duty as lawmakers is to represent the people and bring the dividends of democracy back to the people.

“The Adewale Temitope Adedeji Initiative is an initiative that we created to empower our youngsters who are in school and the idea is to ensure that we do not leave anybody behind.

“Growing in a family where education is key, I learnt a lot and presently, I am also a student.

“So, I know the hardship in the economy at the moment and the need for our youngsters to continue to further their education.

“We have seen the hardship and families are struggling to further their children’s education.

“For that reason, we decided to give back, but this year, we are giving back to 400 students in celebration of Mr Seye Tinubu’s 40th birthday anniversary,” he said.

Adedeji explained that it was his dream to have Ifako-Ijaiye as the most educated orientated local government in Nigeria.

Adedeji said the process of selecting the students was not political and it was open to everybody.

“We did the first mock exam where over 1,000 students wrote and only 400 students that passed were able to get the free GCE forms.

“Next year the same process will be used but we will try our capacity to increase the number of students we can accommodate,” he said.

The lawmaker advised them to shun cultism, drugs and all other social vices that could destroy their lives.

According to him, focus on your education and make your parents particularly Ifako-Ijaiye and Nigeria proud.

A beneficiary, Mrs Omolola Owolabi, expressed her appreciation to the lawmaker for keeping her hope alive.

“After 25 years of putting my educational dreams on hold due to financial constraints, Mr Temitope Adedeji, has given me a second chance through the adult school programme and the free GCE forms.

“This is an opportunity for those people who have lost hope.

The initiative has not only enabled me to further my education but restored my confidence and sense of purpose,” she said. NAN
