The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, on Saturday personally led a joint team of operatives and tactical squads to restore normalcy along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway following a violent communal clash between youths of Ijanikin and Otto communities.
The crisis, which forced the temporary blockage of the busy expressway at the Otto-Ijanikin axis, disrupted vehicular movement for several hours before police intervention. The road was successfully cleared and reopened to traffic at about 9:00 a.m., with residents and commuters resuming normal activities under heavy security presence.
One Feared Killed, Full Investigation Ordered
During the clash, one Akinyemi Omo Akin was reportedly shot and later died at a hospital. The Commissioner of Police has directed a full-scale investigation into the incident, assigning the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to lead the probe.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was not hit by a stray police bullet, contrary to circulating claims. According to police sources, distress calls received before officers arrived at the scene revealed that suspected cultists had been mobilised by both factions and were engaged in a gun duel. Authorities believe the victim may have been caught in the crossfire during the exchange.
Seven Arrested, Firearm Recovered
Police confirmed the arrest of seven suspects from both sides of the conflict. The suspects are currently in custody and have reportedly made voluntary statements detailing their roles in the disturbance.
Security operatives also recovered one locally made pistol and two live cartridges from one of the suspects.
Meanwhile, tactical squads and anti-riot policemen have intensified combing operations in the affected communities and adjoining bushes to track down fleeing suspects.

Police Issue Strong Warning
The Lagos State Police Command has warned troublemakers and their sponsors against actions capable of disrupting public peace, stressing that the full weight of the law will be applied to those found culpable.
Parents and guardians were urged to caution their children and wards against involvement in violence or criminal activities that threaten lives and property.
CP Jimoh reassured residents across Lagos State of the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, encouraging citizens to go about their lawful businesses without fear. He also called on members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
