The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has congratulated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and his wife, Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, on the occasion of their 30th wedding anniversary.
The Association described the milestone as a remarkable celebration of love, commitment, discipline and partnership, noting that the qualities that have sustained the IGP’s family life are also reflected in his leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
Mrs. Disu, who is the National President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), has remained a strong pillar of support to her husband throughout his more than three decades of policing, culminating in his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police in February 2026.
In a congratulatory message signed by the NAOSNP National President, Mayor Oki O. Samson, the Association described the couple as an inspiring example of enduring partnership.
“Thirty years of marriage is no small feat. We join family, friends and well-wishers across Nigeria in celebrating the IGP and his amiable wife on this remarkable occasion.
“Their enduring partnership has undoubtedly contributed to shaping a man now entrusted with the enormous responsibility of protecting the lives and property of over 200 million Nigerians.”
NAOSNP also commended Mrs. Disu for her leadership of POWA, observing that her efforts toward the welfare and wellbeing of police officers’ families complement the IGP’s emphasis on personnel welfare and a people-centred approach to policing.
NAOSNP Hails Disu’s Support for Tinubu’s Security Agenda
Beyond the anniversary celebration, NAOSNP praised IGP Disu for what it described as his significant contribution to the security reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Association noted that Disu assumed office at a critical period when the Federal Government was pursuing major reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, including the proposed establishment of State Police, the expansion of Army divisions and the development of the Forest Guards initiative.
According to Mayor Oki, the IGP has demonstrated a commitment to complementing the President’s vision through intelligence-led, community-oriented and welfare-driven policing.
“IGP Disu has actively complemented the reform agenda of Mr. President Tinubu. From his welfare-driven leadership of police personnel to his insistence on intelligence-led and community-rooted policing, he has continued to demonstrate that the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership is a willing and capable partner in the President’s vision for a safer and more secure Nigeria.”
The Association recalled Disu’s reputation for operational effectiveness and community-focused policing, particularly during his previous assignments in Lagos, where he earned recognition for strengthening intelligence-driven policing and crime prevention.
Commends Police Conduct During Osun Governorship Election
NAOSNP also commended IGP Disu for the professional conduct of police personnel during the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The Association noted that the IGP personally directed extensive security arrangements for the election, with the deployment led by DIG Ishyaku Mohammed and supported by Police Mobile Force personnel, air surveillance and drone operations across the state’s 30 local government areas.
It further praised the Police for engaging civil society organisations, including Yiaga Africa, ahead of the election as part of efforts to promote public confidence and strengthen stakeholder engagement.
NAOSNP observed that, despite isolated incidents, the election was largely peaceful, with police officers receiving commendation for their professionalism and conduct across polling locations.
The Association said the conduct of security personnel, alongside the participation of INEC officials, political parties, the media and voters, contributed to the credibility of the electoral process.
“Osun has once again demonstrated that when the Police lead with professionalism, neutrality and respect for the electoral process, Nigerians respond with confidence.
“The conduct of the Police during the Osun election is commendable and demonstrates the importance of professional security deployment to the success of democratic elections.”
NAOSNP said the outcome of the Osun election would provide useful lessons ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in the areas of security coordination, neutrality, intelligence gathering and stakeholder engagement.
The Association concluded by wishing IGP Olatunji Disu and Mrs. Mutiat Disu many more years of marital bliss, good health and fulfilment.
It expressed confidence that the discipline, patience, partnership and grace that have sustained their 30-year marriage would continue to inspire the IGP as he leads the Nigeria Police Force in the service of the nation.
