The 8th triennial conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors is currently underway in Owerri, Imo state, with over 700 journalists in attendance. The conference is a significant event in the Nigerian journalism calendar, and it provides a platform for editors to discuss pressing issues affecting the industry.

This year’s conference is particularly notable, as it marks the end of an era for the current president, Mr. Chris Isiguzo, who is bowing out after six years of service. Mr. Isiguzo has expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for the opportunity to lead the guild, and he has also thanked the Imo state governor, Mr. Hope Uzodinma, for providing a conducive environment for the conference.

In his remarks, Mr. Isiguzo debunked the notion that Imo state is not peaceful, contrary to media reports. He praised the governor for creating an enabling environment for the conference, which has brought together editors from all over the country.

The conference is also an opportunity for the guild to elect a new president, and three candidates are vying for the position. They are Mr. Dele Atunbi, esq; Mr. AlHassan Yahya, and Mr. Garba Mohammed. The election is expected to be keenly contested, and the outcome will determine the direction of the guild in the next three years.
