Nigeria is witnessing a wave of advocacy and inclusion as 16-year-old Kanyechukwu embarks on a remarkable awareness ride from Enugu to Lagos—an inspiring, purpose-driven journey aimed at amplifying the voices of children living with autism across the country and beyond.
What began as a symbolic take-off in Enugu has quickly grown into a nationwide campaign, drawing attention in key cities including Awka, Asaba, and Benin. At every stop, the initiative has fostered community engagement, public education, and meaningful conversations around autism awareness, inclusion, and the urgent need for improved support systems.

The campaign has also gained national prominence, attracting high-level engagements with the First Lady and other influential stakeholders. Support from government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), alongside growing traction on social media, underscores the increasing recognition of autism advocacy at the highest levels.
Carefully designed to reach both urban and rural populations, the Autism Awareness Ride is bridging gaps and encouraging inclusive participation across diverse communities. As the journey progresses through Ore, Ijebu Ode, and Abeokuta, momentum continues to build ahead of its grand finale in Lagos.
The ride will culminate on April 2—World Autism Awareness Day—strategically aligning Nigeria’s advocacy efforts with the global movement for awareness and acceptance. This timing further strengthens the campaign’s mission to spotlight Nigerian and African children within the broader international discourse on autism.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, campaign representatives emphasised that the movement goes beyond one individual.
“This ride is not about one person—it represents millions of children whose voices deserve to be heard. It is about breaking stigma, promoting understanding, and driving real action across communities and institutions.”
More than a physical journey, Kanyechukwu’s ride stands as a symbol of resilience, visibility, and hope. It challenges deep-rooted misconceptions about autism while championing a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and inclusive society.
As Lagos prepares to receive the final leg of this historic ride, stakeholders,

organisations, and the public are being called upon to not only celebrate the moment but to commit to sustained advocacy, awareness, and systemic change.
