RSS Makes History, Celebrates 2026 Graduands in First-Ever University-Style Valedictory Ceremony
Remo Secondary School (RSS) has made history with the graduation of its 2026 class in a groundbreaking valedictory ceremony that brought the grandeur and tradition of a university convocation to the secondary school level.
The historic ceremony brought together graduating students, parents, teachers, school administrators, old students and distinguished guests in a colourful celebration of academic achievement, character and excellence.
In a remarkable departure from the conventional format of secondary school valedictory ceremonies, the graduating students appeared in full academic regalia, including graduation gowns and caps, creating the atmosphere of a university convocation.
Adding to the uniqueness of the occasion, the school’s principals and teachers, as well as members of the National Executive Council of the Remo Secondary School Old Students’ Association (RSSOSA), also donned academic gowns, further enhancing the grandeur and significance of the ceremony.
The innovative initiative transformed the valedictory service into a memorable graduation experience for the Class of 2026 and marked a significant milestone in the history of Remo Secondary School, Ogun State and the Nigerian public school system.
Beyond celebrating the completion of secondary education, the ceremony was designed to instil in the graduating students a deep sense of pride, achievement and responsibility as they prepare to transition into higher education and the next phase of their lives.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to students who distinguished themselves through outstanding morals, discipline, good character and exemplary conduct. The awards recognised students whose achievements extended beyond academic performance to include responsibility, positive behaviour and commendable personal values.
In a further demonstration of its commitment to the future of the students and the advancement of education, the Hope Bridge Social Impact Foundation awarded full higher education scholarships to approximately 25 deserving graduating students.
The scholarships will support the beneficiaries in pursuing tertiary education, providing them with an opportunity to advance their academic aspirations and realise their full potential.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of RSSOSA, Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuelking KOF, congratulated the graduating students and commended the school management, teachers and parents for their dedication and contributions to the students’ academic and personal development.
He also expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government, led by the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, CON, for its commitment to transforming the state’s education sector.
Aare Adetola Emmanuelking particularly acknowledged the Governor’s Yellow Revolution initiative, describing it as one of the notable interventions that has positively impacted education and contributed to creating a more conducive learning environment across public schools in Ogun State.
According to him, the Governor’s sustained attention to education, coupled with the deliberate interventions of his administration, has had a positive ripple effect on institutions such as Remo Secondary School, contributing to the school’s continued growth, development and progress.
He also commended the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, for his leadership and contributions to the advancement of education in the state.
The event further underscored the enduring relationship between Remo Secondary School and its old students. The strong presence and active participation of RSSOSA members demonstrated the association’s continued commitment to supporting the development and advancement of the institution.
