The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed that a multiple-vehicle crash that occurred in the early hours of today on Otedola Bridge has resulted in one fatality.

The accident, which happened at about 5:55 a.m., involved three commercial trucks and three adult male occupants. One of the victims sustained severe injuries and was rushed to an emergency hospital, where he was later confirmed dead, while no other casualty was recorded.

According to the Sector Public Relations Officer, FSRC Oluwadamilola Jayeola, preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speeding led to loss of control by one of the drivers, despite the road being in good condition at the time of the incident.

FRSC operatives, who arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the distress call, rescued the injured victim and promptly conveyed him for medical treatment. The Corps, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the Fire Service and other sister agencies, has since been managing traffic and overseeing the towing of the crashed vehicles to restore free flow along the busy corridor.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, urged motorists to always observe prescribed speed limits, maintain lane discipline and exercise extra caution, particularly on Otedola Bridge, noting its steep slopes and bridge sections.

He stressed that strict adherence to traffic regulations remains critical to preventing avoidable crashes and saving lives on Lagos roads.
