The operatives of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan Lagos, under the leadership of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Adegoke M. Fayoade, have made significant arrests involving a suspected cultist and members of a human trafficking syndicate. This development is part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in Lagos and Ogun States.

A statement released by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, CSP Ayuba Ummah, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), detailed the intelligence-driven operation. The intelligence gathered by the AIG indicated that suspected members of the EIYE FRATERNITY were terrorizing the Ijebu-Ife axis of Ogun State. In response, the Officer-in-Charge of Zonal Dragon Squad II (ZDS-II), DSP Akeem Adeyemi, and his team were deployed to carry out a discreet operation to apprehend the suspects.

The statement revealed that on March 19, 2025, the police raided the hideout of the cult group while they were allegedly planning an attack. During the operation, one suspect, Orekoya Abayomi (male, aged 54), was arrested while others managed to escape through a nearby bush. A search of his residence led to the recovery of several incriminating items, including one locally made single-barrel pistol, six live cartridges, twenty-one voter’s cards with different names suspected to be fake, and one Emerald pump-action gun with breach number 1335.

In another operation, on March 22, 2025, the Zonal Intelligence Response Squad (ZIRS), led by SP Francis Kpoughul, busted a human trafficking syndicate operating in the Ipaja/Ayobo area of Lagos State. The operatives stormed the syndicate’s base in the Command/Meran area, leading to the arrest of Stella Edem (female) and Susan Michael (female), who were deeply involved in trafficking young girls for illegal activities.

During interrogation, Stella Edem confessed that she was introduced to human trafficking by one Anabel, a woman based in Mauritania. She further revealed that Anabel was initially connected to her by Rosemary Isaiah Otobong, who is currently serving a jail term for the same offense. Stella admitted that her role was to recruit young girls under the age of 22 to be used as sex workers in Mauritania. She disclosed that she was paid fifty thousand naira (₦50,000) as a commission for each girl sent and had already received over five hundred thousand naira (₦500,000) for her involvement. Shockingly, she confessed to recruiting her 19-year-old daughter as well.

Her accomplice, Susan Michael, also admitted her involvement but claimed she was misled. She explained that she was initially contracted by Stella Edem to recruit girls for domestic work in Mauritania. However, upon further inquiries, she realized that the recruited girls were meant for sex work. As a result, she withdrew from the illicit business. She added that the only girl she attempted to recruit was rejected due to age and body size, which raised her suspicions about the real nature of the business.

The Zone 2 Command has assured that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will
