Access Bank Debunks Fake Shutdown Rumour, Assures Customers of Stable Operations

Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false and misleading a social media post claiming that the bank is shutting down its operations, reassuring customers and stakeholders that its business remains safe, financially strong, and fully operational.

In a statement made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the bank described the viral notice as the handiwork of mischief makers who impersonated its official social media handle in a bid to spread panic and disrupt business activities.

The bank urged customers and the general public to disregard the fabricated message and rely only on information published through Access Bank’s verified communication channels.

According to the statement:

“A message impersonating Access Bank’s official handle is currently circulating on social media and WhatsApp. It is false and misleading.”

Access Bank reassured customers, partners, and stakeholders that all its subsidiaries remain fully operational, with banking services running seamlessly across its network.

The bank also disclosed that it is working closely with relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies to identify those behind the fake publication, stressing that those responsible will face appropriate legal action.

It further reminded the public that the creation and dissemination of false information capable of causing panic, damaging reputations, or undermining confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.

Access Bank advised members of the public not to share or forward the false message but instead to ignore it and verify any information through the bank’s official channels.

The bank expressed appreciation to its customers, partners, and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence, reaffirming its commitment to delivering secure, reliable, and excellent banking services.
