A civil rights advocacy group has thrown its weight behind Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Jimoh, urging the public to disregard alleged misinformation surrounding the investigation into the murders of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye of Ajiran Community, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The group also called for justice for the victims and urged all parties to allow the ongoing judicial process to run its course.
The activists made the position known during a solidarity visit to AIG Jimoh, who currently heads the Zone 2 Police Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun States.
The visit, according to the group, followed what it described as a sustained campaign of misinformation and propaganda allegedly targeted at the senior police officer over his role in the investigation of the two murder cases while serving as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
Sheriff Ishola Salami was reportedly killed on April 18, 2023, while Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiranland, was murdered on August 26, 2024.
The group stated that AIG Jimoh assumed office as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, on February 18, 2025, and subsequently approved an investigation into a petition submitted by Olarotimi Williams Chambers, seeking the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the killings.
According to the activists, the investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, who allegedly made confessional statements detailing the circumstances surrounding the murders and identifying the alleged sponsor of the crimes.
The group further claimed that the development led to the declaration of Lagos businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, also known as Ahmed Ajiran or Hamed Tajudeen, as wanted in connection with the cases.
It alleged that attempts were subsequently made by certain interested parties to influence the investigation and frustrate the prosecution. However, the activists commended the police for what they described as their resolve to pursue the matter without compromise.
The group also stated that the suspect was eventually arrested in the Benin Republic.
While noting that the matter is currently before a competent court, the activists said they would refrain from commenting on the merits of the case, stressing that the matter remains sub judice.
They expressed confidence that the judicial process would ultimately deliver justice to the victims and their families.
The group described AIG Jimoh as a professional and committed police officer who demonstrated integrity and dedication during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
It therefore urged members of the public to disregard what it described as misinformation surrounding the cases and allow the courts to determine the matter based on the evidence presented before them.
The activists reaffirmed their demand for justice for Sheriff Salami and Prince Akinloye, while calling on all stakeholders to respect the rule of law and the sanctity of the judicial process.
