DIG Fayoade, LSSTF Boss Ogunsan Reassure Lagosians on Security, Unveil Technology-Driven Policing Strategy
Lagos residents and people across the South-West have been assured of sustained safety and security as law enforcement authorities intensify efforts to deploy technology-driven solutions to combat emerging security threats.
The assurance was given on Monday when the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) hosted the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West geopolitical zone, DIG Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, during his working tour of the six states in the region.
The visit provided an opportunity for strategic discussions on strengthening regional security, preventing criminal infiltration into the South-West, and enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies through advanced technology, intelligence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration.
Speaking during the engagement, DIG Fayoade described Lagos as critical to Nigeria’s overall stability, stressing that the security of the state has far-reaching implications for national peace and economic growth.
“If the security of Lagos is not solid, the security of Nigeria is in trouble. But once Lagos remains stable and secure, it contributes significantly to national peace and economic prosperity,” he said.
While commending the Lagos State Government, the LSSTF and security agencies for maintaining relative peace in the state, Fayoade emphasized the need for a more scientific and technology-driven approach to policing.
“The security situation in Lagos is intact, but we need to become more scientific in our approach. We need more technology, modern equipment and systems that improve accountability, transparency and operational effectiveness,” he stated.
The DIG advocated the deployment of body-worn cameras for police officers, noting that the technology would enhance transparency, improve professionalism, protect officers from false accusations and strengthen public trust in law enforcement.
According to him, Nigeria’s policing system must align with global best practices, with technology playing a central role in future security management.
Fayoade also praised the Lagos State Security Trust Fund for its longstanding support to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, describing its interventions as vital to strengthening security operations in the state.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for directing senior police officers to return to their operational zones to reassess security strategies and address emerging threats.
Ogunsan stressed the need for vigilance despite the relative peace currently enjoyed in the South-West, warning against allowing criminal elements to gain a foothold in the region.
“We must not allow anything negative creep into our zone,” he said, while calling for stronger collaboration among states through existing joint security arrangements.
Highlighting Lagos State’s commitment to modern security solutions, Ogunsan disclosed that the state was increasing investment in technology to improve surveillance, intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
“We are migrating to technology. We have drone operations now going on effectively in Lagos. We have aerial surveillance through helicopters, and we are still doing more patrols to discover criminal hideouts,” he revealed.
He assured residents that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration remains committed to sustained investment in security infrastructure, adding that major technology-based initiatives would become fully operational before the end of the year.
Ogunsan also highlighted the role of the LSSTF Intelligence Unit in supporting police operations and providing channels for residents to report security concerns and offer feedback on service delivery.
The visit underscored a growing consensus among security stakeholders that the future of policing in Nigeria lies in intelligence-led operations, advanced surveillance technology, community participation and stronger inter-agency cooperation.
Among those present at the meeting were the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh; the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani; senior officers of the Lagos Police Command, and top officials of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
