The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former Senator Dino Melaye, a close ally of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, due to his refusal to honor a summons and engaging in anti-party activities. The suspension was announced by the Ward executive committee of Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, following a meeting on Friday where they reviewed the report of the disciplinary committee set up to investigate Melaye’s activities.

The Ward exco cited Melaye’s alleged misconduct, which they claim has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, as the reason for his suspension. The resolution, signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Secretary Yodson Dayo, stated that Melaye’s continued membership in the party is no longer tenable.

The suspension is in line with the provisions of Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which empowers the Ward party executives to take disciplinary actions against erring members. This move marks a significant development in the party’s efforts to maintain discipline and uphold its constitution.
