Commencement of National Taskforce on Trucks and Haulage Transport Safety and Security Compliance

The Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria has launched the National Taskforce on Trucks and Haulage Transport Safety and Security Compliance. This initiative aligns with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is being executed in collaboration with the Office of the Inspector General of Police (Department of Operations – Transport) and other key government and security agencies. The taskforce aims to address critical issues affecting the haulage sector across Nigeria.

The taskforce is set to tackle major challenges in the sector by focusing on reducing road accidents involving trucks, enhancing cargo security, enforcing transport regulations, and promoting synergy among stakeholders. Key focus areas include safety inspections, driver training and certification, ensuring vehicle roadworthiness, and deploying intelligence-led operations to combat smuggling and cargo theft.

Through joint efforts, participating agencies will pool their resources and expertise to foster a safer, more compliant, and secure transport environment. The taskforce is expected to drive reforms that will not only protect lives and property but also boost confidence in the nation’s haulage and logistics systems.

The official inauguration of the taskforce will take place on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025, at 11:00 a.m., in the Auditorium of the Apapa LGA Secretariat, Lagos.
