Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has introduced a novel idea to bolster security in Lagos. During his inaugural visit to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Jimoh proposed the establishment of the ‘Eko Strike Force’, which will complement the existing Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

The Eko Strike Force will focus on policing the suburbs and nooks of the city, while the RRS will concentrate on urban centers. Jimoh emphasized that the new unit will have a dual approach, with overt and covert operations. The covert team will comprise undercover officers, while the overt team will be a mobile patrol unit stationed in Surulere.

Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, welcomed the proposal but cautioned Jimoh to ensure that the new unit operates within a civil and democratic framework. Balogun stressed that the police must be mindful of their approach, as the issues that led to the ENDSARS riot are still prevalent.

Jimoh also advocated for the decentralization of command centers to enhance security response times. He proposed relocating some squadrons from Ikeja to other areas, such as Ikorodu, Epe, and Oko Baba.

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has pledged its support for Jimoh’s initiatives, with Board Member Dr. Ayo Ogunsan expressing optimism about the new CP’s drive and diligence. Ogunsan assured Jimoh of his backing, citing his expertise and experience in developing and executing innovative ideas.
