The Lagos State Police Command has debunked a viral video circulating on social media alleging the recent arrest of Fulani men with arms and ammunition in Ikorodu, describing the footage as an old incident recycled to cause panic.
According to the Command, the video in question is over three years old and does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any part of Lagos State.
This was disclosed in a statement e-signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
The statement noted that the re-circulation of the outdated video as a fresh incident was misleading and capable of creating unnecessary fear and apprehension among residents.
“The recirculation of such outdated content as a recent occurrence is misleading, capable of creating unnecessary panic, fear, and apprehension among residents. The Command therefore urges members of the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of undermining public confidence and peace,” the statement read.
The Police Command also warned social media users and content creators against spreading false or alarmist reports capable of disrupting public order, stressing that offenders would face investigation and possible prosecution in line with existing laws.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has ordered sustained deployment of police personnel and operational assets to strategic locations, black spots, and entry and exit points across the state.
The Command explained that the proactive security measures are being carried out in collaboration with other security and safety agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property across Lagos.
Residents were therefore advised to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security arrangements have been put in place to maintain peace and security in the state.
The Police further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities within their communities.
“Members of the public are encouraged to partner with the Police and other security agencies by remaining vigilant and providing prompt, credible, and actionable information on suspicious persons, movements, or activities within their communities, as timely information from the public remains invaluable in preventing crime and enhancing public safety,” SP Abimbola Adebisi stated.
