CP Tijani Cracks Down on Ikorodu Crime, Launches ‘Command Sweepers Squad’ with 3 Refurbished APCs
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has inaugurated a special tactical security outfit codenamed the “Command Sweepers Squad” as part of intensified efforts to flush out criminal elements terrorising parts of Ikorodu and adjoining communities.
The move comes amid growing security concerns in areas such as Ijede, Ginti, and other parts of Ikorodu, where residents have raised alarm over the activities of criminal gangs.
In a major show of force personally led by the CP across strategic locations in Ikorodu, the Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to dominate the security space and stamp out all forms of criminality in the axis.
The newly inaugurated “Command Sweepers Squad” is a temporary intervention security outfit made up of officers from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos Taskforce, Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF, alongside personnel from other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
According to the Command, the squad has been strategically deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to carry out intelligence-driven operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at restoring peace and ensuring the safety of residents.
Among the operational assets deployed for the exercise were three newly refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) recently handed over to the Police Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, alongside several patrol vehicles.
Speaking during the inauguration, CP Tijani assured residents that the operations would be conducted professionally and in line with the rule of law. He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements operating within Ikorodu and its environs, declaring that the Command would deal decisively with anyone threatening public peace.
He further stated that the squad would maintain continuous patrols across all parts of Ikorodu to rid the area of crime and social vices.

CP Tijani also commended the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayo Ogunsan, for the logistics support and the provision of the refurbished APCs, which have since been deployed for operations.
The “Command Sweepers Squad” is strategically based in Ijede to guarantee rapid deployment and quick response to security threats across Ikorodu and neighbouring communities.
