Makoko, one of Lagos’ most culturally vibrant waterfront communities, took centre stage in the state’s evolving political landscape on April 8, 2026, as a large crowd converged at Church Street Hall for a landmark endorsement event in support of Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose’s governorship ambition.
The gathering, which attracted residents, faithful, and notable dignitaries, marked a significant boost for Ajose’s 2027 bid, as the leadership of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) publicly threw its weight behind his aspiration. The event underscored the growing influence of faith-based institutions in shaping political discourse and mobilization across Nigeria.
Presiding over the occasion, the Pastor and Spiritual Head of the CCC Worldwide, Reverend E.M.F. Oshoffa, spoke passionately about Ajose’s character, loyalty, and deep-rooted connection to the church. He paid glowing tribute to Ajose’s late father, Most Superior Evangelist Abraham Ajose, describing him as a revered figure whose legacy continues to resonate within the CCC fold.
Framing Ajose popularly known as SMA Gold as a candidate anchored in both heritage and service, Oshoffa emphasized that his endorsement was based on proven commitment and values.
“It is in light of these qualities that I wholeheartedly recommend and endorse his political aspiration,” he declared to loud applause from the audience.
Ajose, a native of Badagry and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was also described as a loyal supporter of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aligning closely with the administration’s leadership philosophy. Political observers note that his growing profile reflects a unique blend of grassroots engagement and strategic influence, positioning him as a bridge between local communities and established power blocs in Lagos State.
The endorsement was further strengthened by the presence of key church leaders and stakeholders, including Most Superior Evangelist Olusegun Olarinde, International Pastor’s Representative; Assistant Most Superior Evangelist Afiz Kiki, Shepherd-in-Charge of the National Headquarters, Makoko; A/M/S/E J.S. Kuti; Senior Evangelist S.A. Sofowora; A/V/S/E Kayode Ajala, Head of the Media and Publicity Team of the CCC Worldwide; and M/S/E Solomon Oshoffa, Personal Aide to the Pastor. Baba Ajala was also acknowledged among respected figures at the event.

For many attendees, the occasion went beyond politics, symbolizing a powerful fusion of faith, legacy, and collective hope for future leadership. As Lagos gradually builds momentum toward the 2027 governorship election, Ajose’s emergence backed by both institutional endorsement and grassroots supportsignals his growing relevance as a contender in the state’s political arena.
