A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, Olusola Oke, has indicated his interest in contesting the ticket of the ruling party in order to participate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated the gubernatorial poll for November 16, 2024.
Oke said he wanted to be governor so that he could realise his vision of a prosperous, secured and developed Ondo state.
He added: “My mission is to change the narrative, to harness the available resources, to drive the state to the path of development so that we can address the various challenges that are currently facing us.
“What is driving me is a desire to bring a new order, a new agenda, a new dream, a new song to Ondo state, so that we can change our economy from a civil service economy to an industrialized economy.”
The Ilaje-born politician made this known at the weekend while addressing journalists in Akure, the state capital.
Oke declared that he was the best among the people jostling for the APC nomination in terms of experience, exposure, capacity and popularity.
The erudite lawyer stated that he was not discouraged by his failure to actualise his gubernatorial aspiration in previous elections, adding that everything had its season.
“I have contested a number of times and I didn’t win. I believe this is the appointed time that I am going to make it. So, I am motivated by the love the people of Ondo state have shown to me. I am encouraged by their insistence that they want me to rule them,” he said.
Expressing his love for the state and concern for its development, Oke said: “This is a time when Ondo state is beaconing on men of good conscience to come to its aid. It is like a child looking at his mother, saying come and carry me. Come and lift me.
“Ondo state needs a new order, needs a new leadership, needs a new direction, requires men of courage, men of vision and direction to come and be at the saddle.
“I believe that, given my experience, given my exposure, given my connection, given my influence, I will be able to take Ondo state away from the present state of squalor and abject poverty to a state of prosperity.
