
The National Association of Nigerian Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Lagos State chapter held a successful Southwest Zonal Summit on Thursday, 29 August 2024, at the Ladi Lawal Press Center, 9 Iyala Street, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State.
The summit, themed “Empowering Women: Driving Good Governance and Economic Growth,” brought together delegates from the Southwest zone and representatives from the national body. Dr. Adeola Ekine, Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos State, hosted the event, while Comrade Adeola Adekunle, Vice President of NAWOJ Southwest B Zone, served as the chief host.

The Royal Father of the day, His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Elegusi (Kusela III), Elegusi of Ikateland and Environs, Eti Osa, Lagos State, was represented by Alhaji Olarewaju Bakare. The guest speaker, Victoria Ibagan, delivered a thought-provoking speech emphasizing the importance of women in society.
In her speech, Victoria Ibagan stressed the need for women to be empowered to drive good governance and economic growth. She encouraged women to take on leadership roles and work together to achieve their goals.
Dignitaries present at the event delivered goodwill messages, praising NAWOJ for its efforts in promoting women’s empowerment. Comrade Adeola Adekunle was honored with an award, presented by Yeye Ifeyinwa Omowole, in recognition of her contributions to the organization.
The summit provided a platform for women journalists to network, share ideas, and learn from one another. It also served as an opportunity for NAWOJ to promote its objectives and encourage more women to join the organization.

The event was a huge success, with participants expressing their gratitude to NAWOJ for organizing such a meaningful summit. The theme and discussions will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the empowerment of women in Nigeria, driving good governance and economic growth.
