Former Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, is set to headline the 2026 Annual Lecture of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, with a critical discourse on the media’s role in driving Nigeria’s economic transformation.
Peterside, a leadership strategist, management turnaround expert and prominent voice on the blue economy and public policy, will speak on the theme: “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.”
The lecture will examine the intersection of politics, ports and the media, particularly the role of Nigeria’s maritime gateways in economic development and how the media can influence public discourse, accountability and policies capable of accelerating national growth.
At the centre of the discourse will be a key question: Can the Nigerian media help propel the country towards a trillion-dollar economy?
With extensive experience spanning leadership, governance, public policy and organisational transformation, Peterside is expected to bring his wealth of knowledge and industry experience to the conversation as he leads other stakeholders during the NUJ Lagos State Council 2026 Press Week.
The Press Week is scheduled for Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4, 2026, with the Annual Lecture holding at 10:00 a.m. at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

In a statement signed by the Council Chairman, the NUJ Lagos State Council called on journalists across the state to participate actively in the week-long programme.
The Council said the Press Week would provide media practitioners with an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, strengthen professional relationships and celebrate the contributions of journalists to the growth and development of society.
The 2026 NUJ Lagos Press Week is expected to bring together journalists, media executives, government representatives and other stakeholders to celebrate professional achievements, promote unity within the journalism community and reaffirm the values of responsible, ethical and professional journalism.
