Ogun 2027: Yayi Hails Yewa Monarchs for Allegedly Rejecting Cash Inducement, Reaffirms Equity Agenda
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has commended the traditional rulers in Yewaland for allegedly rejecting a substantial cash offer reportedly made by the governorship candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ladi Adebutu, during a consultative meeting with the Yewa Traditional Council in Ilaro.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Senator Adeola described the reported decision of the monarchs as a remarkable demonstration of integrity and a clear indication of Yewaland’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ogun West’s long-standing aspiration to produce the state’s next governor in 2027.
The APC flag bearer expressed delight over the reported rejection of the alleged financial inducement, noting that Yewaland had already embraced his governorship ambition in pursuit of equity, fairness and balanced political representation after more than five decades of Ogun State’s existence.
“I salute the steadfastness, courage and integrity displayed by our revered royal fathers during their encounter with Hon. Adebutu. I am delighted that the traditional rulers in Ogun West remain united in their commitment to our collective aspiration and have identified with my candidacy as the preferred choice for Yewaland and the entire Ogun West Senatorial District,” he stated.
Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the Senate, praised members of the Yewa Traditional Council for what he described as choosing principle over material gain, stressing that their reported action had strengthened public confidence in the traditional institution while reinforcing the region’s quest for political justice.
According to him, the monarchs’ stance reflects the determination of Ogun West people to address what he described as a long-standing imbalance in the state’s political leadership.
“For over 50 years since the creation of Ogun State, Ogun West has not produced a democratically elected governor. Our aspiration is anchored on justice, fairness and inclusiveness. The reported position of the Yewa monarchs shows that the collective interest of our people cannot be sacrificed for financial inducement. It would be inconsistent with the demand for equitable power rotation for Yewaland to support another governorship candidate from Remo when the incumbent governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is from Ogun East Senatorial District. The 2027 election presents a historic opportunity to correct this imbalance and ensure every part of Ogun State has a sense of belonging,” he said.
The senator maintained that while every aspirant has the constitutional right to pursue political ambition, the overriding interest of the state should remain political stability, justice, equity and balanced development.
He added that his emergence as the APC consensus candidate was driven by the desire to promote fairness, strengthen unity among the state’s three senatorial districts and foster sustainable development.
Senator Adeola also appealed to the people of Ogun State to support his governorship bid in the 2027 election, promising inclusive, people-centred and purposeful leadership that would accelerate development across the state.
He emphasized that backing Ogun West’s governorship aspiration represents not only a political choice but also a moral commitment to fairness, inclusiveness and the equitable rotation of power in Ogun State.
