ONDO ASSEMBLY DECLARED NULL AND VOID THE PURPORTED SUSPENSION OF ILAJE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN BY THE COUNCILLORS

The Ondo State House of Assembly(ODHA) declared null and void the purported suspension of Hon. Olamigoke Jatuwase the executive chairman Ilaje local government. In a unanimous resolutions passed by the house at a meeting held on the 31st of January, 2023.

The House of Assembly resolved among other things; that by virtue of Section 33 of the Ondo State Local Government (Amendment) Law, 2007, the House of Assembly is empowered to investigate the conduct of affairs of any officer, authority or person in the employment of any Local Government within the State and that Section 34(2) of the Law categorical states that the House of Assembly is not precluded from imposing sanctions as considered necessary to restore accountability, transparency and good governance in any Local Government in the State.
The Assembly commended the Councilors for upholding Democracy at their various Local Government. Therefore, seek for maximum cooperation between their Legislative and Executive Arm of Government.

However, the House of Assembly note that the action taken on the 25th of January, 2023 by the Councilors in Ilaje Local Government did not follow due process and is hereby declared null and void.

The councillors are requested to forward the report of any dispute between the Chairman and them in all the 18 Local Government areas of the state to the House of Assembly for necessary action/resolution.
