POLICE ENFORCES ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ILLICIT DRUGS, DESTROY DRUGS WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA

The stench and smoke of dangerous drugs worth millions of naira are currently reaching the clouds as a joint security operation led by Deputy Commisioner of Police in charge of Operations at the Lagos State Command, DCP Ahmed Kontagora is destroying the hard drugs in Ewu-Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos. The illicit drugs which would have found its way to the streets and cause damaging impact on the physical and mental health of Nigerian youths were intercepted by officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos.

The Tochlight Africa News observing the exercise at the destruction site in Ikorodu can reliably report that it would take 6 hours for the entire contents to be properly charred.

Men and officers of the Nigeria Police, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Agency (LNSA) are present to monitor the destruction. They were also available to ensure that unscrupulous individuals do not gain access to the site in Ewu-Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Speaking at the exercise, DCP Ahmed Kontagora who led the operation said: ‘We are here to execute the court order in respect of the destruction of hard drugs recovered by the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State Command. Here we have about 4000 wraps of different kind of drugs like indian hemp, cannabis, etc. that have been recovered by RRS in the last 1 month. The value is over N10 million which we have gotten court order to destroy the drugs.’

‘Arrests have been made. Three suspects have been charged to court. That is why we have secured the court order for this destruction of these items. We have here men of the NDLEA, NAFDAC, and other relevant agencies within the state’, he told The Tochlight Africa News
The newly promoted Operational officer, Kotangora warned drug peddlers, ‘We want to assure you that this is going to be a continuous exercise. After this, we would still bring some other drugs here to be destroyed with a court order. There is no hiding place for drug peddlers and any kind of criminality in this Command.’
