South African music acts on Glo-sponsored African Voices spotlight
By The Torchlight Africa News
Glo-sponsored African Voices Changemakers returns this week with the story of two hugely successful musical artistes who are making the continent proud.
Popular flutist, Wouter Kellerman and Abel Selaocoe, an amazing cellist, will be on the 30-minute magazine programme to share their enthralling journeys to stardom.
A 2022 Grammy Award-winning South African flutist and composer, Kellerman, 62, is a serial winner of the South African Music Awards, who also worked with the Soweto Gospel Choir on Symphonic Soweto – A Tribute to Nelson Mandela.
His counterpart, Selaocoe, has successfully put his imprint on the cello music instrument. A review put it succinctly saying, “He moves seamlessly across a plethora of genres and styles, from collaborations with world musicians and beatboxers, to concerto performances and solo classical recitals”.
The duo makes the number of South African musicians who are working assiduously to put the classical African genre on the world map. Wouter Kellerman, a Grammy award-winning flutist, fuses traditional style into the contemporary sound just as Selaocoe brings his unique improvisational skills to bear on classical music as an avenue for inspiring the next generation.
African Voices Changemakers will air on Saturday, August 12, at 12.30 p.m. on DSTV channel 401 with repeat broadcasts on Sunday at 4.30 a.m. and at 7.00 p.m.
