In a shocking turn of events, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, has died after undergoing prostate cancer surgery. According to reports, Ayilara passed away early Thursday morning, August 29, 2024, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Sources close to the deceased revealed that Ayilara had undergone surgery on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, and was initially in good spirits. However, his condition took a turn for the worse, leading to his untimely demise.
Colleagues described Ayilara as hale and hearty just days before his passing, having attended the pull-out ceremony for Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yetunde Longe, on Monday, August 26, 2024.
The late Commissioner, a devoted Muslim, will be buried today, August 29, 2024, in accordance with Islamic rites. Ayilara had previously served as the acting Commissioner of Police for Lagos State before his posting to Akwa Ibom in a substantive capacity.”
