Zenith Bank Plc has reinforced its position as Nigeria’s leading financial institution, delivering another impressive performance marked by record profitability, robust capital strength, rapid regional expansion and global recognition.

Fresh from winning the coveted Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026 as Africa’s Best Bank and Nigeria’s Best Bank, the financial powerhouse has continued to widen the gap with its peers through exceptional first-quarter 2026 results, strategic acquisitions and ambitious international expansion plans.

The bank’s unaudited financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2026, reveal sustained growth across key performance indicators. Profit before tax climbed to ₦361 billion, the highest among Nigeria’s top-tier banks, while gross earnings exceeded ₦1 trillion, driven by strong growth in net interest income, fee income and shareholders’ equity.

Zenith Bank also strengthened its financial foundation, with total assets standing at ₦32.01 trillion, customer deposits rising to ₦24.47 trillion, and shareholders’ funds increasing by 16.3 percent to ₦5.17 trillion. Its expanding capital base, coupled with improved asset quality and a declining non-performing loan ratio, underscores the bank’s disciplined risk management and resilient balance sheet.

The lender’s loan portfolio continued to expand ahead of balance-sheet growth, while maintaining one of the strongest asset-quality profiles in the industry. Net loans increased significantly, supported by a healthy loan-loss coverage ratio and a capital adequacy level that remains comfortably above regulatory requirements.

Beyond traditional lending, Zenith Bank demonstrated impressive success in diversifying its revenue streams. Net interest income posted solid growth, while fee and commission income surged by more than 44 percent, reflecting increased earnings from digital banking, transaction services and card operations.

Shareholders also benefited from the bank’s exceptional performance, as Zenith doubled its total dividend for the 2025 financial year to ₦10.00 per share, one of the largest dividend payouts in Nigeria’s corporate history, reinforcing its reputation for delivering consistent shareholder value.

The bank’s strong financial performance has been matched by bold strategic expansion across Africa. In 2026, Zenith successfully completed the acquisition of Paramount Bank Kenya Limited, establishing a foothold in East Africa’s largest economy. It also launched operations in Côte d’Ivoire, extending its footprint into the Francophone West African market and strengthening its presence across the continent.

Looking beyond Africa, Zenith Bank has announced plans to list on the London Stock Exchange in 2027, a move expected to broaden access to international capital, support larger cross-border transactions and accelerate its transformation into a truly global African financial institution.

Industry recognition has further validated the bank’s impressive trajectory. In addition to its historic Euromoney double, Zenith has maintained its position as Nigeria’s Number One Bank by Tier-1 Capital for 17 consecutive years and continues to earn accolades from leading global financial institutions, including The Banker, Global Finance and Brand Finance.

With industry-leading profitability, a fortress balance sheet, prudent risk management, expanding regional presence and sustained international recognition, Zenith Bank continues to set the benchmark for banking excellence in Nigeria and across Africa. Its consistent ability to combine financial strength with strategic growth places it firmly among the continent’s most admired and best-managed financial institutions.
