The Anambra State Government has dismissed as misleading a report by Sahara Reporters alleging impropriety in the award of a contract for the construction of gates at the General Hospital, Okpoko, and the Specialist Hospital, Fegge.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the government clarified that the contract sum was ₦123,217,218.82, not ₦229 million as alleged. He noted that the accurate figure is publicly available and verifiable on the official e-portal of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
According to Mefor, the procurement process strictly followed due process, with the BPP and the Ministry of Health ensuring transparency and accountability at every stage. He added that the contractor, Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd., was duly mobilised and successfully executed the project.
The commissioner expressed disappointment that Sahara Reporters failed to verify readily available facts before publishing the report, raising concerns about the intent behind the publication.
Mefor reaffirmed the commitment of the Anambra State Government, under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to prudent management of public funds, stressing that all expenditures are handled with diligence and in line with established procurement laws.
“The claims by Sahara Reporters are baseless and misleading and are hereby categorically debunked,” he stated.
