FCT CP Gives 17 DPOs Two-Week Deadline to Crush Robbery, Crime in Abuja City Centre

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has issued a stern directive to the 17 Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Metro Area Command, ordering them to eliminate robbery and other criminal activities within the Abuja city centre within two weeks or risk being replaced.
The ultimatum was issued during a strategic security meeting held on Friday, June 19, 2026, with the DPOs to review the prevailing security situation and strengthen operational measures against emerging threats across the Area Command.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the police commissioner expressed concern over the growing security challenges confronting the city centre.
Among the issues highlighted by the CP were traffic robberies, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, the notorious “one chance” robbery menace, motorists driving against traffic regulations, the activities of commercial motorcyclists on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways, and persistent traffic congestion.
CP Sanusi consequently directed all DPOs to take immediate and decisive action to address the identified challenges within two weeks, warning that failure to deliver results would attract sanctions, including possible replacement.
The police boss further instructed the DPOs and the Area Commander, Metro Area Command, to concentrate security efforts on the city centre, while he personally oversees security operations in the suburban areas of the FCT.
He emphasized that negligence and poor supervision would not be tolerated, charging the Area Commander Metro to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with all operational directives.
